All these modern-day phenomena make parents tiresome. Kids are like viruses, constantly evolving into a new form, and parents are too tired to combat.
Today’s young people are like roses in a greenhouse, compared with young people in the past. Young people can do nothing about it simply because they have accustomed to what their parents will do for them right after they come out of mother’s womb. It has become a habit that their parents will do things as trivial as cleaning to something as major as writing a resume and making a phone call to the company’s HR personnel.

The Importance of Play
Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg didn’t drop out the way you think they did. Do some research."。在查完資料後，作者發現自己很無知，像是Zuckerberg被venture capitalist問到是否要drop out of the school，Zuckerberg回答說「他計畫要繼續他大三的課業」，最後對於臉書前景有更好的實務方法時，也只說了"take a semester off"，而非"drop out of school"。在Bill Gates方面則是"Gates didn’t impulsively drop out of college either. He took just one semester off during junior year to work full-time on Microsoft."。

Task 2 Independent Writing
Read the question below. You have 30 minutes to plan, write, and revise your essay. Typically, an effective response will contain a minimum of 300 words.
Today’s kids are having more distractions in life. Distractions, such as smartphones, are one of the main reasons that they underperform in the school setting. Some people claim that those distractions are making raising kids so hard nowadays because they even bring the safety issue of their kids to the table, and this is something much more important than getting a good grade. What is your opinion?
In the past, without digital devices, parents had nothing to worry about, and perhaps the only concern was whether their kids would get injured while they were playing outside.
Even if parents want to protect their kids, they find themselves completely clueless about their kids, like whom they are talking to on Facebook or other networking sites.
Today’s kids’ value is aggravated by iPhones and lots of expensive stuff and they do not cherish things.
Unit 6 Utopia and Dystopia
Next, the reading traces back to the earliest utopian fiction, Plato’sThe Republic, and gives the utopian examples from British literature, which are Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels and Samuel Butler’sErewhon, while the lecture points out that the boundary betweenutopian and dystopian literature is sometimes not so definite, asboth styles are present in the latter two works of fiction.
In conclusion, the dissimilar characteristics of utopia and dystopiaare discussed, supported by the renowned works from both genres.
句尾的分詞片語supported by ... 是由形容詞子句簡化而來，原本的完整子句：which are supported by ...，省略which are，保留過去分詞supported。
Unit 8 Modern Architecture and I. M. Pei
Particularly, he was drawn to the school of modern architecture, featuring simplicity and the utilization of glass and steel materials, and influenced by architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
His decision to build a huge glass and steel pyramid at the center of the courtyard initially ignited controversy, yet since its completion, the glass pyramid has become a famous landmark in Paris and Pei’s most representative work.
Unit 9 Woody Allen's Contribution to Cinema
Summarize the main points in the reading and the lecture
Woody Allen is undeniably one of the greatest Americanauteurs; his films carry a unique signature that makes his comicpersonae easily distinguishable from those in other Hollywoodmovies. In most of his films, the major personae exhibit neuroticdisposition, and are frequently anxiety-ridden. Very often, thosecharacters behave like schlemiels who undergo some sort ofspiritual awakening or personal transformation throughentanglements in relationships. With this comic portrayal, Allenpresents philosophical issues in humorous ways, a theatricalscheme that he has developed since his early career as a stand-up
comedian in Broadway in the 1960s.
Performing as stand-up comedian has exerted a substantialinfluence on his films, many of which are seemingly autobiographic, the most quintessential being Annie Hall (1977), which won 4Academy Awards in 1978, including Best Actress for Diane Keaton,Best Script, Best Director and Best Picture, and was voted thefunniest screenplay ever written by the Writers Guild of America in2015. Although often categorized as a romantic comedy, Annie Hallactually breaks many traditions of this genre due to theexperimental style, non-linear narrative akin to stream ofconsciousness, and the lack of a felicitous ending. As the storyabout the neurotic couple, Alvy and Annie, unfolds, viewers learnthat it’s not really about Alvy’s lament on why the relationshipends, but on the perpetual loneliness of human existence.
Regarding the experimental nature of Annie Hall, Allen employedseveral unconventional visual techniques, such as split screens, animation, subtitles indicating the main characters’ thoughts tocontradict the onscreen dialogues, and the protagonist’s directaddress to the audience.
