This work, authored by three members of the Hong Kong Policy Research Institute, examines the implications, for the people of Hong Kong, of British and PRC nationality and immigration policies. It begins by examining the nature and concepts of nationality and proceeds to detail the historical changes in the policies of both the British and Chinese governments relating to nationality and right of abode. Special attention is given to the changes instituted over the period 1995-96. The authors urge Hong Kong residents to consider the political implications of their choice of nationality rather than seeing a passport simply as a travel convenience. |
