"Where does modern theatre go? This is inevitably a question which faces all practitioners. The Life and Death Trilogy, comprising Three Women in Pearl River Delta, Millennium Autopsy and My Murder Story, was created between 1997 and 2000. Its creationis based on a belief and a question. My belief is: theatre is an interplay of reality and illusion and my question is: how to widen the means of expression in modern theatre? My starting point is the traditional theatre and I rediscover the art of puppet theatre in the human perception of reality and illusion.
The relationship between the narrative elements and theatrical elements became the focus of experimentation. I reflected seriously on the art of puppet theatre, in particular its use as a tool and as a metaphor, thereby recognizing its potential and limitation.
