With equal parts argumentation and fact, Black explores the topic of housekeeping, its past, present, and future, and outlines her concepts for a new way of homemaking. Throughout thirteen chapters, Black argues for the establishment of domestic federations, essentially neighbourhood organizations, which would be tasked with overseeing housekeeping for all members of the federation. The book concludes with a chapter detailing how Black believes this system would not only be beneficial for the individual, but for the entire nation.<br><br>Black's book provides the reader with a valuable glimpse into the history not only of housekeeping but of women.
