The Making of Masterpieces is the first major Western-language publication to explore a selection of remarkable art treasures from the Palace Museum’s collection of paintings and calligraphy from the Jin to the Yuan dynasties (226–1368). It reveals the life histories of artworks, including how they were created, how they came to be "masterpieces" on their centuries-long journeys through different collections, and how they have been interpreted and reinterpreted by artists, collectors, connoisseurs, and scholars.
