Rainie once pursued the epic dreams of her childhood – until piece by piece, the dreams faded into the grey tedium of age, jadedness and a life defined by others. But in spite of the gloom of her existence, Rainie still harbours aspirations to greatness. Somehow, she will do something big, go someplace wonderful – because she knows that today is just another rainy day.
Rainie dons her raincoat and wellies and ventures into the drizzly midst, beginning a journey back to the courage and confidence to face life’s challenges… and even its dreams. Along the way, she realises that after the rain, shines the sun.
About the illustrator
Versed in art and design, Kungchinchin is the founder of Double Rice Work Company Limited, a lecturer in Illustrations and Comics at CUSCS, and a freelance artist. She is almost as passionate about writing, cooking, music and philosophy as she is about her life’s work – painting.
Kungchinchin’s interest in painting was sparked at age five, when she received a tin Staedtler set from her father. She quickly came to realise the intriguing possibilities of its 48 watercolour pencils – wet blending, colour mixing, colour gradations, and more. This hands-on experience eventually led her to develop a range of artistic skills in oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel painting, ceramics, and ‘Painter’ digital art.
Pablo Picasso once said ‘Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life’. With this in mind, Kungchinchin draws her inspiration from the everyday: with their subtle blend of characters, space, and succinct messages, her illustrations bridge the gap between the artist and the readers.
